Science is a way to generate knowledge; good science is about methods. Every year the ECNP Workshop on Clinical Research Methods makes this a reality for 50 talented early career clinical researchers.
Being familiar with research methodology is essential for clinicians to critically assess the literature in the field, reach evidence-based treatment decisions, and develop their own research careers.
The ECNP Workshop on Clinical Research Methods is designed to promote research skills and provide top-quality practical information on how to get started in clinical research. It introduces psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, and other early career clinicians to the core principles and techniques of research methodology and inculcates the critical approaches needed to apply scientific literature to clinical practice.
It provides a unique opportunity for 50 early career colleagues to learn from international researchers, share their professional experiences, and develop as clinical scientists.
Programme
The three-day Workshop takes place at the Hospital Clinic of the University of Barcelona with a programme that combines theoretical and practical interactive sessions on topics that include:
- Research in psycho-pharmacology
- Non-pharmacological research
- How to read and write a scientific paper
- How to start a successful scientific project and build a research career
I had the privilege of taking part in this Workshop where I met fellow early career psychologists and psychiatrists from across the globe. It was such an amazing experience, both in the knowledge acquired and the networking that took place. I feel so grateful to Eduard Vieta for selecting us for this opportunity. Made friends, learned important stuff, and had fun, what else could you ask for?
I highly encourage all my fellow early career researchers in mental health to apply to the following year's programme; it is so worth it. I look forward to continuing to track of the events organised by the ECNP, if they are even half as good as this one!
