Postdoctoral Researcher Position (f/m/d) in Health Economics / Health Data Science
Full-time | initially limited to two years with a possibility of a third year | with the possibility of habilitation
The position is embedded in EU-MIC (European Coalition for Mental Health Medicines Innovation), a strategic initiative led by the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP). EU-MIC aims to address the growing innovation gap in psychopharmacology between Europe and the United States and to examine the structural disparities between mental and somatic health in access to innovative medicines.
A major workstream of the project focuses on the quantification of the direct and indirect societal costs of mental disorders, including:
healthcare and treatment costs
sick leave, retirement and disability-related costs
productivity losses
presenteeism and absenteeism
broader social and long-term economic consequences
The resulting evidence will contribute to scientific publications, European policy reports, and advocacy activities targeting regulators, HTA bodies, payers, policymakers, clinicians, patients, and carers.
Your responsibilities
Develop and implement a health-economic data analysis plan within EU-MIC
Identify, collate, harmonise, and analyse national and international datasets (which, in part, will also be delivered by the supporting companies) and evidence sources
Model direct and indirect costs of mental disorders across European healthcare systems
Quantify presenteeism, productivity losses, and wider societal economic impacts
Conduct systematic evidence reviews, evidence synthesis, and health-economic modelling
Establish transparent data structures, metadata standards, and reproducible analytical workflows
Prepare peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, policy briefs, and stakeholder presentations
Collaborate closely with international experts in psychiatry, health economics, HTA, public affairs, and patient organisations
Contribute to the strategic development of EU-MIC and future European research and funding initiatives
Your profile
PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) in health economics, public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, data science, medicine, psychology, or a related discipline
Demonstrated expertise in the analysis of large healthcare, claims, registry, or real-world datasets
Strong statistical and programming skills (R, Python, Stata, or SAS)
Experience in health-economic evaluation, cost-of-illness studies, HTA, or real-world evidence generation is highly desirable
Interest in mental health, health services research, and European health policy
Excellent written and spoken English; German language skills are advantageous but not required
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international interdisciplinary environment

Die Klinik für Psychiatrie, Psychosomatik und Psychotherapie des Universitätsklinikums Frankfurt besetzt zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt eine
Postdoc-Stelle (w/m/d) im Bereich Gesundheitsökonomie / Health Data Science
Vollzeit | zunächst befristet auf 2 Jahre, mit der möglichkeit einer verlängerung um ein drittes Jahr | Möglichkeit zur Habilitation
Die Stelle ist eingebettet in das europäische Innovationsprojekt EU-MIC (European Coalition for Mental Health Medicines Innovation) des European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP). Ziel von EU-MIC ist es, die zunehmende Innovationslücke bei Psychopharmaka zwischen Europa und den USA sowie die strukturelle Benachteiligung psychischer Erkrankungen gegenüber somatischen Erkrankungen zu analysieren und evidenzbasiert aufzuarbeiten.
Ein zentraler Schwerpunkt des Projekts ist die Quantifizierung der direkten und indirekten gesellschaftlichen Kosten psychischer Erkrankungen, einschließlich:
• Gesundheits- und Versorgungskosten
• Arbeitsunfähigkeit und Erwerbsminderung incl. EU-Berentung
• Produktivitätsverlusten
• Präsentismus und Absentismus
• sozialer Folgekosten und Langzeitbelastungen.
Die Ergebnisse sollen in wissenschaftliche Publikationen, europäische Policy-Papiere sowie Kommunikations- und Advocacy-Aktivitäten gegenüber Regulierungsbehörden, HTA-Institutionen, Kostenträgern und politischen Entscheidungsträgern einfließen.
Ihre Aufgaben
• Entwicklung und Umsetzung eines gesundheitsökonomischen Analyseplans im Rahmen von EU-MIC
• Identifikation, Zusammenführung und Analyse nationaler und internationaler Datensätze (die teilweise durch die unterstützenden Unternehmen bereitgestellt werden) und Evidenzquellen
• Modellierung direkter und indirekter Krankheitskosten psychischer Erkrankungen in Europa
• Quantifizierung von Präsentismus, Produktivitätsverlusten und gesellschaftlichen Folgekosten
• Durchführung von Literaturrecherchen, Evidenzsynthesen und gesundheitsökonomischen Modellierungen
• Entwicklung transparenter Datenstrukturen, Metadaten-Standards und reproduzierbarer Analysepipelines
• Erstellung wissenschaftlicher Publikationen, Berichte und Präsentationen für europäische Stakeholder
• Enge Zusammenarbeit mit internationalen Experten aus Psychiatrie, Gesundheitsökonomie, HTA, Public Affairs und Patientenvertretungen
• Mitwirkung an der strategischen Weiterentwicklung von EU-MIC und an europäischen Förder- und Forschungsinitiativen.
Ihr Profil
• Abgeschlossenes wissenschaftliches Hochschulstudium und Promotion in Gesundheitsökonomie, Public Health, Epidemiologie, Biostatistik, Data Science, Medizin, Psychologie oder einem verwandten Fachgebiet
• Ausgewiesene Erfahrung in der Analyse großer Gesundheitsdaten oder versorgungsbezogener Datensätze
• Sehr gute Kenntnisse statistischer Verfahren und entsprechender Software (z. B. R, Python, Stata oder SAS)
• Erfahrung mit gesundheitsökonomischen Analysen, Kostenmodellierung, HTA oder Real-World-Evidence ist von Vorteil
• Interesse an psychischer Gesundheit, Versorgungsforschung und europäischer Gesundheitspolitik
• Sehr gute Englischkenntnisse in Wort und Schrift; Deutschkenntnisse sind wünschenswert
• Fähigkeit zu eigenständigem wissenschaftlichem Arbeiten sowie zur Arbeit in internationalen interdisziplinären Teams.
