Episode title: Tribulations and perks of building a career in the Neuroscience landscape

Anna Beyeler, France
Anna Beyeler received her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the University of Bordeaux, where she also obtained her PhD in Neuroscience. She then joined the Picower Institute for Learning and Memory at MIT as post-doctoral fellow, where she identified neural circuits of emotions in the amygdala. In 2018 she started her lab in the vibrant Neuroscientific community of Bordeaux, where her team is studying the contribution of neural circuits of the insular cortex, to emotional valence and anxiety. Her lab published important findings on the function and organization of the insular cortex using a wide panel of techniques including fiber photometry, electrophysiology, opto- and chemo-genetics, along with whole-brain circuit mapping. She also received prestigious awards and funding including from the Avenir program of INSERM, the ANR, the FRM, the ‘Cercle FSER’ and the Bettencourt Fondation. In 2020, Dr. Beyeler has been tenured as principal investigator at the French Institute of Health (INSERM). .

Ilse Graat, The Netherlands
Ilse Graat is a psychiatric resident and researcher at the Amsterdam University Medical Centre. In 2022 she obtained her PhD at the University of Amsterdam. Her research focusses on the use of deep brain stimulation for patients with refractory psychiatric disorders, mainly focusing on patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder. She is a member of the Early Career Academy Board of the ECNP.
