That’s why we are committed to reducing our footprint and encouraging all participants to join us in making the 2025 ECNP Congress in Amsterdam as sustainable as possible.
Our commitment
ECNP supports the European Commission’s Fit for 55 initiative, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the region by 55% by 2030. We are actively implementing measures to lower our carbon footprint and move toward carbon neutrality—both as an organisation and within the Congress itself.
Sustainable travel
To and from Amsterdam
- We strongly encourage faculty and participants to travel by train whenever possible—one of the most sustainable modes of transport
- If train travel isn’t feasible, we recommend booking direct flights to help reduce overall emissions
Getting around Amsterdam
- Amsterdam’s public transportation system is efficient, affordable, and eco-friendly.
- Cycling is a quintessential Dutch experience—and a green one. ECNP offers discounted bike rentals throughout the Congress days
Conscious catering
Water
- We encourage participants to bring reusable water bottles
- Water refill stations will be available throughout the venue. Dutch tap water is of exceptional quality and safe to drink
Food donation
- Any surplus food will be donated to the Salvation Army and local food banks to prevent waste and support the community.
Vegetarian meals
- All catering at the congress will be 100% vegetarian, with a focus on seasonal and locally sourced ingredients
- Meals will be served using sustainable tableware, including 100% reusable melamine bowls and Panibois wooden trays
Eco-friendly venue practices
Printed materials and give aways
We continue to reduce printed materials. All Congress information will be available via the ECNP Congress app.
Carpeting
Carpeting will be kept to a minimum and will be made from 100% recycled and recyclable materials.
Stand construction
We aim to minimise the use of custom-built elements and reduce waste in all stand designs.
Signage
Additional printed signage will only be used if digital signage and existing venue signage are insufficient.
Furniture in the Bubbles
The cardboard ECNP stools used in the Bubbles are 100% recyclable and made from FSC-certified cardboard, much of which comes from recycled sources. These Festival Chairs offer a sustainable seating solution that aligns with our commitment to circular design.
Choosing a responsible venue
ECNP carefully selects congress venues that align with our sustainability goals. RAI Amsterdam, our host for ECNP 2025, is a leader in environmental and social responsibility. Through its Corporate Social Responsibility programme, RAI promotes circular operations, smart logistics, and inclusive community engagement—supporting Amsterdam’s ambition to become a fully circular city by 2050.
Working with industry partners
We ask our industry partners to adopt sustainable production practices that minimise waste and reduce the use of materials, energy, and personnel.
Together, we can make a meaningful difference
Thank you for helping us create a more sustainable ECNP Congress!
