We aim to be at the forefront of communication efforts about the value of animal research, to significantly contribute to technological developments that improve animal welfare and animal-free methods, and develop new training materials aimed at addressing translational pitfalls across the scientific ecosystem."

Mission statement

The ECNP Preclinical Data Forum Network provides a platform for communication and training relating to modern issues in preclinical research with the goal of enhancing data utility for translational and clinical research and development (R&D). The focus of the Network is to increase the robustness, reproducibility, translatability and reporting transparency of preclinical data derived from both animal research and animal-free methods. Our responsibility includes knowledge transfer of high-quality practices in the preclinical research community, as well as communicating the goals and value of preclinical research to the broader public and policy makers.   

Strategic objectives

The goal of the Preclinical Data Forum Network is to systematically advance the value of preclinical research by identifying best research practices, implementing novel data quality standards, providing recommendations to the neuroscience community and informing the public about both the value of ethical animal research and the (current) limitations of complementary methods. 

To achieve its aim and goal, the Preclinical Data Forum Network:

• Engages the committed community of preclinical scientists from academia and industry.
• Maintains a community forum that enables the exchange, development and dissemination of best preclinical research practices.
• Contributes to formalizing the science of translatability.
• Contributes to the development and validation of animal-free methods in preclinical research.
• Develops training materials to educate the current and next generations of preclinical researchers in research best practices.
• Communicates the value of responsible animal research.
