Types of sessions

ECNP offers a variety of different scientific sessions designed to appeal to a wide range of congress participants. Please find below an overview of the sessions that will be held at the 34th ECNP Congress.

Scientific SessionsThe brain - 33rd ECNP Congress Virtual

Brainstorming Session (BS)
Small focused interaction sessions organised by ECNP members on a topic of their choice. The organiser of the session and a second expert in that specific field of interest will initiate the discussion.
Each session can facilitate around 100 participants.

Campfire Session (CA)
Campfire sessions are experimental, informal and highly interactive. The facilitator of the session will introduce a topic in five minutes in an actual campfire circle and then drive the discussion further among the participants. Each session will have room for 30 participants, on a ‘first-come-first-served’ basis.

Career Development Session (CD)
These training sessions each feature a leading expert in the field. The expert is specifically invited to share with you his/her wealth of knowledge and experience. The topics are especially interesting for early career scientists, but sessions are open to all participants. Career development sessions are held daily.

ECNP’s Got Talent (IN)ECNP early career scientists
ECNP organises numerous activities for early stage researchers, such as Schools and Workshops. Here we see some of the brightest and most talented Early Career Scientists in applied neuroscience from all over Europe. For this innovative format, we have selected the most promising ones of this already prestigious group and challenged them to compete against their peers by giving a great presentation. Be prepared for high-performance presentations, excellent science – and a jury that is as entertaining as it is relentless. Not only fame, but also an award is to be won in this talent showcase that demonstrates that Europe and ECNP have enormous scientific potential.

ECNP Inspired (IN)
ECNP Inspired is an innovative format session featuring prominent speakers from the field giving a short inspirational talk on popular topics.

ECNP Patient Session (ES)
This patient-focussed session is created together with several patient organisations. It is a 45-minute session.

Educational Update Session (EDU)
The educational update sessions focus on a continuous dialogue between the participants and the presenters. Different angles of a subject are discussed, and state-of-the-art summaries are provided, with emphasis on new information relevant for clinical practice. A voting system is used to make the sessions more interactive. Each session has two speakers and one moderator.

Keynote Lecture (KL)
The keynote lecture features a world-renowned speaker who is especially invited to present on a topic of interest that should appeal to all congress participants.

Love your Brain Session (L)Love_your_brain
The “Love your brain” campaign consist of a series of initiatives at the ECNP Congress, including three special sessions, that focus on the importance of prevention of brain disorders and promotion of mental health through a healthy and brain-friendly lifestyle.

New Medications Symposium (S)
In the New Medications symposium clinical trials of new compounds will be presented, including proof of concept and post-marketing studies. Selected speakers will get the opportunity to present their new medication during a short presentation.

New Findings Symposium (S)
One symposium with eight early career speakers. These promising early career scientists are selected from the best posters presented at the ECNP Workshop for Early Career Scientists in Europe, which is, under normal circumstances, held every year in March in Nice, France.

New Frontiers Session (SS)
A session dedicated to the outputs of the New Frontiers in Digital Health Meeting in Nice, France. The New Frontiers in Digital Health Meeting is designed for all representatives from IT, pharma and medical devices industry, regulators, and patient and family associations who are interested to discuss different points of view on how digital health is going to change the way clinical trials are run and the use of digital therapeutics for brain disorders. During this session you will receive an update on interesting discussions and conclusions.

Nomenclature Session (NS)
An afternoon session on Saturday, specially dedicated to the classification of psychotropic drugs by means of the Neuroscience-based Nomenclature.

Plenary Lecture (PL)

Industry Sessions

Industry Product Theatre (IPT)
These hands-on sessions provide a forum for presenting to participants on a broad range of issues, including new treatment approaches, the uses of specific medications, clinical insights, innovative services and product demonstrations. The sessions are organised and financially supported by industry and do not come with CME credits.

Industry Satellite Symposium (ISS)
Scientifically oriented sessions take place outside the official ECNP scientific programme. The programmes are reviewed for balance and rigour by the Scientific Programme Committee (SPC). These sessions are organised and educationally financially supported by industry. They might be accredited for CME depending on the organising industry.

Industry Science Exchange (ISE)
These sessions offer companies the opportunity to move from commercially oriented exposure to more focused, scientifically driven engagement with participants. The programme takes place in parallel with the official ECNP scientific programme. These sessions are organised and educationally financially supported by industry.
